The first upcoming Hindu festival in this New Year is Makar Sankranti or Lohri is going to celebrate all over India on 14 January 2018. On this auspicious day, the people gather around with family members and relatives, various food items and sweets were made on this day.

People enjoy the day with flying kite and eating their favorite food, the real fun is flying kites with friends. Kids and adults fly kites on the terrace of their buildings or in open areas, where kite competition will be held.
In some places, Makar Sankranti is also called as Lohri especially in Punjab. Holiday family and friends gather around the bonfire hand dancing to the tune of the folk song.
According to the people in Punjab rituals praying to the sacred Lohri fire have their own charm which worms their hearts.
People visit temples and holy rivers to offer prayers and perform Pooja on this day to the God Surya Dev.
